Pathways to Property
An opportunity for Year 12 students to attend a four day, fully funded Summer School at the University of Reading to learn about a career in property.
Every day we are influenced by the built environment around us – shops, offices, industrial buildings, houses and the surrounding countryside all have an impact on the way we live. Did you ever wonder how these properties are developed, whether the buildings going up in our cities are sustainable or how much they are worth? The Pathways to Property Summer School allows students the chance to explore the property industry in more depth. With such a huge variety of roles, from a building surveyor or town planner to a sustainability consultant or financial analyst, there is a role to suit any skillset or personality.
Date: 8th -11th July 2025
Venue: University of Reading
Who: Year 12 students from state schools/colleges considering a career in property – either through University or through an apprenticeship
Cost: Nothing! All food, accommodation and travel costs are covered
During the Summer School:
- Learn about the industry and the careers available
- Meet current undergrads and apprentices as well as those who have just joined the industry
- Attend taster lectures
- Get involved in a group project and debate
- Go on a site visit

At the end of the week, if students are keen to learn more about property they can complete a funded work experience placement over October half term, have access to our e-mentoring programme, and if they choose to apply to study Real Estate and Planning at any UK University they can apply for a bursary up to £30,000 over three years. In addition students that apply to study Real Estate at Reading University will be guaranteed a conditional contextual offer and be given a welcome bursary on enrolment.

Dr.eam Aspire Virtual Conference
Dr.eam Aspire is a free-to-join online conference held via Zoom Webinar for Y10-Y12 students. Our goal is to introduce students to the exciting world of healthcare careers. The day will consist of a variety of inspiring talks to provide insight into careers in healthcare and provide useful guidance for university application. Students will also have the opportunity to ask questions from our fantastic speakers, including doctors, dentists, nurses from around the country.
On the day of the event, safeguarding measures will be taken in accordance with the University of Birmingham’s Safeguarding Policy, and all BWAMS members are DBS-checked.
With hundreds of prospective students joining our Dr.eam conferences each year, we believe this event will be hugely beneficial for any of your students who may be interested in healthcare-related careers.
Discover a Career as a Firefighter Sessions
These are a series of sessions to help more people find out more about the role of a firefighter.
As part of these sessions, people will learn more about the role, the application process and what life at a fire station is like. There are online sessions and visits to a fire station on dates throughout February and March, together with Have a Go Days which will be held at Langley and Bracknell stations.

NHS Healthcare Work Experience – 2 March
This is a reminder that the NHS Allied Healthcare Work Experience begins this Sunday 2nd March from 8:30am - 5pm. We strongly encourage students in years 10-13 considering healthcare to register ahead of this weekend. A strong record of work experience is crucial to all allied health careers, so we would be very grateful if you could forward this to your students.

During the work experience day, students will follow 2 patients from their initial presentation to recovery. This session will be focused on Recovery and Rehabilitation: Strokes & Opioid Dependence. Students will gain a unique insight into how patients interact with a variety of healthcare professionals and what it’s like to work in an NHS multidisciplinary team. It's also a rare occasion for students to hear from our exceptional guest speaker, Melanie Dalby, a seasoned pharmacist with a wealth of knowledge and insights to share.
Throughout the programme, participants will gain insights into various careers, including:
- Nursing
- Midwifery
- Paramedicine
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Dietetics
- Radiography
- Prosthetics and Orthotics
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Pharmacy
Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with healthcare professionals throughout each day. This will empower students to make informed career decisions and demonstrate their commitment to healthcare in their UCAS applications.
Once they’ve registered, students will be emailed links to their virtual work experience portals.
Students are awarded a Work Experience Certificate for every session they complete. Those who complete the full 6-month programme will be awarded a Highly Commended Reference from the Presidents of Allied Healthcare Mentor. These are fantastic additions to their CVs!
Students can register individually at any time throughout the 6-month programme using the link below. We recommend booking early to gain as much out of this programme as possible. Places are £10 a session to cover administrative and technological costs.

Fire Service extends Summer Internship Scheme application window
The window to apply for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s (RBFRS) Summer Internship Scheme has now been extended until 11:59pm on Sunday, 16 March. The Service is looking for four interns to join the scheme for five weeks in the summer, from Thursday, 3 July to Friday, 8 August. As part of the Internship, each successful applicant will be paid an hourly wage of £10.66.
The Internship encourages 18-year-olds from backgrounds that are underrepresented within the Service to explore some of the many roles available to them in the fire and rescue sector. Each intern will gain valuable real-world work experience embedded within teams across the Service. During the Scheme, the interns will also participate in learning and development workshops, as well as visits to several fire stations across Berkshire. To qualify for the Internship, applicants must live in Berkshire, be 18 years old and come from an ethnic group that is under-represented in Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

to immerse themselves in university life. Students will walk away with the confidence and skills needed to choose where to apply and what to study, be competitive applicants wherever that is, and find support with a network of like-minded peers.
