What Is Public Relations (PR)?
Public relations (PR) is the set of techniques and strategies related to managing how information
about an individual or company is disseminated to the public, and especially the media. Its primary
goals are to disseminate important company news or events, maintain a brand image, and put a
positive spin on negative events to minimize their fallout. PR may occur in the form of a company
press release, news conference, interviews with journalists, social media posting, or other venues.

Work Experience
Scientists of the Future Day
Register Your Interest
Wednesday 14th February 2024
09:15 – 15.45
The University of Reading, supported by the biochemical society, is delighted to be hosting an all-day science workshop for years 11 and 12, to give students a chance to experience what it is like to be a scientist first-hand.
Attendees will have the opportunity to undertake a series of laboratory activities, talk to current University of Reading science students, and explore our beautiful campus. If you enjoy science at school but are not sure if you want to go to university, then this will be an excellent opportunity to find out what it is like.
The lab activities you will experience on the day will be:
Forensics and DNA: Solve the mystery using this powerful technique to separate
DNA. Learn how to undertake gel electrophoresis and use micropipettes; real
techniques that are used in diagnostic and research labs.
Chemistry: Explore the science of equilibria and learn how these relate to the
cycles of life. We will also demonstrate just how much energy is stored in sugary
sweets!
Food & Nutritional Sciences: Have you ever wondered how or why we taste things
the way that we do? This session will look to explore this through your sense of
taste and smell and start to explain the science behind the phenomena of taste

In2STEM - STEM Work Experience
I wanted to share this opportunity for your Y12 students to undertake a work experience placement in a STEM organisation. We received one application from your school last year and it would be great to have some more applications this year.
Our programme has been renamed to be the In2STEM programme to be more explicit on the inclusion of technology, engineering and maths placements, rather than just sciences.
As before, our programme will include access to skills and careers workshops as well as the opportunity to take part in competitions. The highlight remains the in-person work experience placement which students receive a bursary for to cover travel and lunch costs. The programme will take place between 22 July and 23 August 2024.
We work exclusively with students from disadvantaged backgrounds and applicants have to meet at least one of our additional eligibility criteria, like being eligible for free school meals. You can find out more on our website.
https://in2scienceuk.org/students/student-eligibility/
Applications for our programme are open now and close on 22 December.
