Reading University – Open Days

I am just getting in touch with a reminder about our upcoming autumn Open Days here at the University of Reading, which this year are being held on:

  • Saturday 11 October 2025
  • Saturday 8 November 2025

It is completely free to attend, and open to students in both Year 12 & 13 and their families. Travel bursaries are available to students in IMD1 postcodes. If students wish to apply for a travel bursary, they can enter their postcode when booking and select “public transport” when asked how they will travel. The Open Day team will then check their postcode and contact them to set up free train tickets.

With the UCAS equal consideration deadline for applications approaching on 14th January, we know that these events are a key opportunity for students to visit their local university campus, explore the facilities and speak to staff and current students, and we hope to welcome many of your students and their supporters this weekend and in November.

In our most recent 2024-25 programme survey, 100% of respondents rated LSE Thrive as good or excellent, and 98% of respondents agreed that it has been beneficial to take part in a widening participation programme which is specifically for students of Black heritage.

Students who successfully participate in and complete the Thrive programme, will be considered for a contextual offer if they choose to apply to LSE. To find out if your students are eligible and learn more about the application process, please visit our admissions page.

Pathways to Law St Mary’s University - Applications Now Open

We are excited to announce that applications are open for our Pathways to Law programme, delivered in partnership with the Sutton Trust.This unique opportunity is designed for eligible Year 12 students (or equivalent) who are interested in exploring careers in Law.

Overall, the programme offers a comprehensive introduction to the legal field through a variety of activities, such as lectures, seminars, mock trials and law-in-practice sessions. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to apply for work experience placements and have the opportunity to apply for a National Conference in the summer.

We encourage your students to apply before the application deadline on Monday 20 October.

The programme runs from the start of Year 12 through to April of Year 13.  Programmes are free to attend and travel reimbursements are available to cover the costs to and from in-person sessions.

All students accepted onto Pathways to Law will be offered a place on the Sutton Trust Online Core programme delivered on Sutton Trust Online. This 18-month structured programme will provide additional support and exclusive content from Causeway Education and other university partners to help students explore, apply to, prepare for and succeed at leading universities or apprenticeships.

UEA: Music Scholarship

UEA awards a number of Music Scholarships every year, to new students who show exceptional musical achievement and commitment. The scholarships are for musicians of any instrument or voice and any style or tradition – including different national traditions. They are intended to encourage recipients to develop their musical and leadership skills and contribute significantly to music at UEA. A high standard of performance is expected, but equally important is a clear commitment to take leading  oles in the musical life of the University.  Application is before entry to UEA.

The awards are worth £3,000, payable over three years. University of Leeds: Chemical Innovators Taster Day - 20th November

Targeted at year 12s studying Maths, Chemistry &/ Physics, students are invited to visit the University of Leeds independently to experience life as an undergraduate for one day.

You will be introduced to Chemistry & Chemical Engineering courses taught at the University of Leeds, take part in practical activities in specialist labs and discover related careers. In addition to a campus tour, students will take part in a Q&A with undergraduate ambassadors.
